You just have to be careful, maybe buy a test lot of a few brands then look to see if you can find a big amount for a better price online.
You just don't want to get stuck with 2500 rounds of dirty junk.

Clean and cheap? You often get what you pay for with 22LR ammo...I prefer accurate ammo to cheap plinker. I would buy a little of each brand to determine which shoots the best...you will probably pay 4-6 cents per round regardless of type.

My personal favorites for the Ruger 10/22:

CCI Mini-mag HP or solid--clean, accurate, and reliable

CCI Stinger--clean, accurate, reliable, 1650 fps, varmint control, maybe self-defense, 50 round box, not particularly cheap

Winchester Power Point HP--clean, accurate, and reliable (on par with CCI)

My stock Ruger 10/22 will shoot five shots into less than .75 inches @50 yards (more like .65) with 3-9x scope and above ammo.

My favorite all around .22LR ammo for a semiauto; CCI Mini Mags. Definitely avoid the Remington Thunderbolt ammo, junk IMO.

Re: Good Clean Fun!

Get the best CCI Mini mags/Stingers, and a few accessories to make your shooter real smooth. A little polishing of the action and truing of the sear/disconnector wouldn't hurt.

The 10/22 is an awesome, always reliable gun.

In my opinion, the best .22 LR rounds are the CCI Stingers and the CCI Velocitors.

Reliably "cycles" the action without short-stroking or jamming...low power rounds might do this. Another reason to buy quality "high velocity" ammo for your autoloading rifle.

Many years ago I had a nice Marlin lever action .22

The junk ammo would hang on the ejector when you pulled the lever down.

Saturday I bought 500 rounds to shoot with my buddy's son.

Winchester super x hollow points 13.47 at wally world.

Don't know why but they will ask if the ammo is for handgun or rifle.

Many states won't allow sales of handgun ammo to minors (under 21).
